Cascais Sailing Poster

A sailboat art print from the waters off Cascais, a sailing town since the nineteenth century, when the royal family chose it as their summer retreat and the bay filled with racing yachts every August.

The marina sits at the edge of the old fishing quarter. On Saturday mornings, the bay is busy with day sailors, racing crews and cruising boats passing through on passage south or north. The Atlantic here is calmer than further up the coast, the curve of land takes some of the swell out, and the afternoon offshore wind is reliable.

Thais drew the sailing boat with the attention of someone who has watched them closely: the way the canvas fills, the angle of the heel, the relationship between the hull and the water. The retro palette, warm ochres, deep blues, places the scene in the Portuguese coast's long nautical tradition.
