Made from a place worth remembering
A retro travel poster of a Caparica fisherman at the water's edge, one of the oldest scenes on this coast, and one of the most persistent.
Costa da Caparica has always been a fishing beach as much as a surf beach. The men who work these waters cast long lines from the shore or row out in flat-bottomed boats before dawn. They share the sand with surfers and day-trippers from Lisbon, but they were here first.
Thais drew this figure from observation, in a retro palette that echoes the sun-bleached colours of the wooden boats pulled up on the sand. The result feels like a postcard from a Portugal that still exists, if you know where to look.
