Costa da Caparica has one of the most consistent beach breaks in Europe. Women have always surfed here, and over the past decade the culture has shifted, younger generations, more diverse, less self-conscious. The girl in this illustration is part of that shift. She is not posing for anyone.
The retro graphic style draws from 1970s surf posters, when the lines were bolder and the colours more saturated. Thais worked the composition around the board as a shape: vertical, graphic, the figure secondary to the object she carries.
